Parkgate Virtues
Our Parkgate House Virtues programme encourages pupils to become “thinking, confident, responsible and caring citizens”. Each Virtue, listed below, is a particular focus for two-three weeks during the academic year, and each Virtue is introduced and discussed during assembly and also in class. The children have an opportunity to earn a Virtue certificate, which is presented during assembly.

Pupils leave Parkgate House well-prepared for the world they will live, play and work in. Our pupils take away much more than just good academic results from their time with us; they leave with the life skills they need to cope with living and working in a modern and ever-changing world.
This is in part due to the ethos and virtues of the School being embedded in our teaching from our Nursery to Prep 6 (Year 6), ensuring that our pupils go on to become well rounded, happy and successful young people.
Education at Parkgate House is firmly connected to the world at large. Through cross-curricular teaching and learning our pupils see the links and connections that exist between subjects so that they have a much more practical, realistic and valuable understanding of how things work outside the classroom.
Our pupils are encouraged to think critically; when problem-solving they need to be resourceful and to look beyond the immediate and obvious. They are encouraged to be resilient and pragmatic in overcoming the various challenges they will face.
Our pupils are taught how to work well independently or equally to adapt to working as part of a team. They learn through practice what is needed to be a valuable team member: to work collaboratively, to respect other’s opinions and to be open to ideas but also to have the confidence to challenge ideas and opinions when required.
Our pupils appreciate that we live in a diverse world where honesty, fairness, compassion and empathy are prerequisites to being a responsible citizen.
They are taught to lead by example, to inspire others through their courage, integrity and actions.
We know that the time with our pupils is relatively short, but the impact of a Parkgate education is life-long.
Our Vision and Virtues Poem captures who we are and what we are striving for as a school community:
Our Vision and Virtues
Parkgate House is a family, a nurturing school,
Where being kind is our number one rule,
A home from home, and at our heart,
Is our care for each child, right from the start.
The learning adventure begins from day one,
And children make progress whilst having fun,
Teachers are great and our children aim high,
They are always encouraged to reach for the sky.
Role models stand tall, guiding the way,
Peer mentors listen, and help children play,
Achievement is far beyond the norm,
And our Virtues are celebrated in every form:
Communication is clear, respect is right,
Empathy is essential, teamwork is tight,
Resilience is rewarded, kindness is key,
Independence is important, we take responsibility,
We develop our confidence, we’re individual too,
These Virtues are important for me and for you.
Parkgate House School, a community so tight,
Where every child’s future is incredibly bright.
