At seven the children progress to the Prep department, where we set out to provide the children with the skills needed for successful learning, so that they can gain maximum benefit from our broad and varied curriculum. In this way, we can move forward to teach the children how to learn, how to find things out and how to turn interest into knowledge. The environment we provide is cheerful, energetic and secure, where the children can achieve their full potential, helped and encouraged by a committed and motivated teaching staff. We prepare children of all levels of ability to act with confidence and consideration as we equip them with the academic background to succeed at the 11+ Common Entrance Exams.

Throughout the Prep department we aim to:

> Offer all pupils a broad and balanced curriculum

> Treat all pupils as individuals

> Strive for academic excellence

> Promote self-confidence and independence

> Provide a happy and stimulating environment

> Provide a safe and secure environment in which pupils can thrive

Subject specialisation:

Specialist teachers teach the following subjects: French, Latin, Information & Communication Technology, Art, Drama, Sport and Music.

Games & Gym

Swimming, gym and indoor sports take place at the Latchmere Leisure Centre in Battersea to which children are taken by hired coach. Outdoor sports are played on Clapham Common and these include football, rugby, netball, hockey, rounders, cricket, tennis, and athletics. Each child does an hour of sport each day under the supervision of qualified instructors. There is an annual sports day in the Summer Term.

Swimming

Swimming classes are held weekly at the nearby Latchmere Leisure Centre. Qualified swimming coaches and lifeguards are employed at all times. All children must attend lessons as they form part of the curriculum. A doctor's note is required for absence from swimming. Advanced swimming lessons are offered to children of a high standard. There is an annual swimming gala held in the Spring Term.

Trips & Visits

These are organised on a regular basis to such places of interest as the Science Museum, The Natural History Museum or Hampton Court Palace. Parents are asked to pay a reasonable charge for all of these outings.
