Assemblies at Parkgate House

Children from the Pre-Prep and Prep departments attend Friday morning assemblies together. Each week a different teacher focuses on a particular ‘virtue’ (for example: determination, honesty, kindness etc…) and gives a short presentation. Assemblies also give us an opportunity to talk to the children about various topics of interest relating to the school, such as forthcoming events, guest speakers and any new initiatives that will affect the children directly.

Parents are invited to our assemblies once a month. During these Parents’ Assemblies, different classes will present short performances relating to the topic of the month. We have presented assemblies on the following curriculum subjects: History, English, Science, Art & Culture and Music. Each year we have a special assembly on ‘Parkgate House Writing Competition’, where the winners are presented with their awards and prizes.

Parents are given the opportunity to hear some of our young musicians performing on various instruments: the piano, the violin, the guitar and the recorder. The children also treat the parents to their wonderful singing, as we always begin assembly with an opening song and finish with our school song ‘Share’.

Parents’ assemblies also give us the opportunity to give out various awards for achievements in many areas, including sport, ballet, music and house points.

Our Grand Assembly, held at the end of each academic year, is an award ceremony for outstanding achievements in all areas of the curriculum, including academic, sport, music, languages and cultural. It is also an occasion where our Year 6 pupils deliver their leaving speeches and where we, as a school, wish them all the best before they go on to their senior schools.
