French at Parkgate House School

French Teacher - Mme Anne-Dominique Savage
Bonjour!
Anne-Dominique comes from the west of France in the Loire Valley where she trained to teach. She has been at Parkgate House School for four years now, teaching French to the whole school. Anne-Dominique finds teaching at Parkgate very interesting as she is able to see the pupils' progress from year to year. French is a very popular subject at Parkgate House and many children have joined our after-school French club.
From the youngest children in the Nursery to Prep 6, all of the pupils at Parkgate House are motivated and interested in learning French. Our main objective is to develop upon their enthusiasm and to give them confidence in speaking French through a range of activities such as games, stories, tapes, role plays and songs.
French in the Nursery
The nursery children learn basic vocabulary - colours, numbers and animals. We link our French lessons to their other class topics as much as possible. We use songs and games to encourage the children to speak the language and it also helps the children to retain new vocabulary. The children further develop their oral French through stories that they already know in English such as "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" and "Les Trois Petits Cochons".

French in Pre-Prep and Prep
In the Pre-Prep and Prep Department the children are introduced to written French where the children become more aware of the rules of French grammar. They gain confidence and independence in speaking, reading and writing the language. The children are keen to improve their French by studying topics relating to their everyday life, such as their home, family and hobbies. Our objective is to place the children in as many realistic situations as possible through role-play and games.
