Music
“There was not one voice that we could not hear clearly, and if music be the food of love, play on Mr Douglas and crew.”
Parent’s comment following school concert.
At Parkgate House, music is taught by our music director, supported by a team of music specialists. Various teaching methods are used to encourage a love of music-making and individual tuition in piano, violin, singing and guitar is available.
Parkgate House pupils of all ages are encouraged to enjoy, learn and perform music to a high standard. Those who are musically gifted flourish in an environment designed to nurture and develop their talents.
All children participate through singing in year group ensembles and attending class music lessons. Individual instrumental tuition is provided by peripatetic tutors, who offer vocal, guitar, piano and violin lessons.
Singers currently sit the Trinity Guildhall syllabus and guitar, violin and piano sit the Associated Board of The Royal Schools of Music syllabus.
Music at Parkgate House is rich and varied, and has to be heard to be fully appreciated. In fact there are many opportunities to experience our high standard of music, at our Parents’ Assemblies, annual music exhibition and Christmas concerts.
In Pre-Prep, children are introduced to the concept of pitch through the use of tuned percussion and control of their voices. This is extended through regular recorder classes for Prep pupils, and all children are encouraged to create their own music and develop their musical potential through an extensive variety of acoustic and electronic media.
The school holds an annual carol service, a musical evening and a summer musical production. On reaching Prep 3, children are also invited to join the school choir.
